Pediatric Dental Health: The More You Know

Halloween candies—especially sugary, sour, sticky, or long‑lasting types—greatly increase children’s risk of cavities and enamel erosion because they keep teeth exposed to sugar and acids. Sour candies are particularly harmful, as their high acidity softens enamel, and erosion in baby teeth often predicts erosion in permanent teeth. To protect oral health, children should chew sugar‑free gum with xylitol, brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, and have their candy intake monitored. A concierge pediatrician will still do assessments of teeth during your in-home appointments. Learn more about First Call Pediatrics and pediatric dental health here!
