Pediatric Benefits of Eating At Home Together
Regular family meals (at least three to four times per week) are linked to healthier developmental, emotional, and behavioral outcomes in children, including lower rates of obesity, substance use, depression, and teen pregnancy. These meals also improve nutrition by increasing fruit and vegetable intake and reducing consumption of fried foods and sugary drinks. Keeping screens and distractions away from the table fosters better communication, emotional connection, and a sense of security. Parents are encouraged to create structured mealtimes and engage children in conversation while allowing them autonomy over what and how much to eat. Family-centered pediatric care is pivotal in creating a healthy environment for the entire family. Learn more about First Call Pediatrics and pediatric nutrition here!
