Relationships Between Pediatric Patient and Physician
A concept analysis of trustful relationships between children aged 2–12 and healthcare professionals found that trust in pediatric care is complex, dynamic, and shaped by communication, non‑verbal behaviors, environmental factors, and provider characteristics such as empathy and respect. The review of 40 studies identified key attributes, antecedents like preparation and parental presence, and consequences including reduced anxiety, greater cooperation, and improved clinical outcomes. The authors propose a definition of trustful relationships as reciprocal, confidence‑based connections formed through contextual factors and intentional professional behaviors. Overall, the study offers a foundational framework to guide pediatric practice, education, and future research aimed at strengthening trust in child‑provider interactions.
