We’ve all been there: hour one of a long car ride leaving Jacksonville, headed toward a fun vacation destination, already bored while the kids are losing their minds in the back seat. The conversation drifts from topic to topic as you try to keep everyone entertained before the inevitable car nap. Jobs come up; contract renewals get mentioned, and then a simple question surfaces: What could be next for us?
Somewhere between mile markers and snack breaks, that question sparked what would become First Call Pediatrics. What began as casual car ride chatter, a curiosity about the future, quickly transformed into a real concept: a direct primary care practice designed specifically for pediatrics. A long drive, time to think, and shared conversations about family-centered care laid out the foundation for an idea worth pursuing.
Megann and Kyle Spore, the two parents in that car, already understood the cracks in the healthcare system. Raising two children just two years apart, they had lived in the chaos of hauling a newborn and a toddler to appointment after appointment. The juggling, the stress, the exhaustion—it was all too familiar, and they knew other families felt it too.
As they began discussing these challenges with Stephanie Krawczyk, they realized they weren’t alone in wishing the healthcare system offered newborn home visits, better postnatal care, and more hands-on support for families.
At the same time, Winston Sheen, MD, and Britteny Winburn, PNP, were having their own ongoing conversations about the need for more complete, interactive, relationship-based pediatric care. As changes unfolded in their clinical environment, these two conversations merged into one bigger question: How do we create a safe, stress free environment for children in pediatric offices in Jacksonville?
Eventually, the answer became clear: You don’t.
Instead, healthcare should meet children where they feel safest—at home.
Imagine:
-
- No more appointments scheduled around nap times
-
- No exposing your healthy baby to a waiting room full of sick children
-
- No rushed five minute visits
-
- No battling traffic with a crying infant in the backseat
And instead:
-
- Older kids playing comfortably at home during an infant checkup
-
- A sick baby napping peacefully until their provider arrives
-
- Visits scheduled at times that truly work for your family
-
- A provider who stays as long as needed
-
- A healthier child because exposure to unnecessary germs is minimized
Once the vision crystallized, Kyle, Megann, Britteny, Winston, and Stephanie knew they had something meaningful. They moved quickly to build a team grounded in heart and shared values. Together, their array of experiences as two neonatal nurse practitioners, a pediatric nurse practitioner, a medical doctor with neonatal expertise, and a business leader aligned seamlessly. Each member had long recognized the need for a new model of care and had imagined what it could look like.
Their collective experience caring for NICU and PICU patients in hospitals across Jacksonville, supporting families through complicated pregnancies, and raising their own children created a foundation built on empathy, expertise, and genuine understanding. They believed pediatric care should be proactive, relationship driven, and rooted in open communication, forming a true partnership with families.
As the idea began taking shape, the team realized they weren’t just building a medical practice—they were creating a new way for families to experience healthcare. They envisioned a model where parents never had to question whether they were rushing their child, interrupting a provider, or being pushed through a system designed around volume rather than connection. The concierge at home model allowed them to slow everything down and refocus pediatric care on what matters most: time, trust, and true understanding.
They also saw that parents today navigate more pressures than ever—balancing careers, household responsibilities, and the emotional weight of raising children in a fast-paced world. By bringing compassionate, skilled providers directly into the home, they could remove barriers that often prevent families from receiving timely care. No more second guessing when to call, no more waiting weeks for appointments, no more settling for generic advice when what families need is a provider who knows them intimately.
The team also wanted to ensure that families felt supported during the moments that matter most—first fevers, developmental milestones, sleep challenges, and the many “Is this normal?” moments that fill early parenthood. With concierge care, families gain access to providers who walk alongside them, offering clarity and reassurance without judgment. Every message, every visit, every concern becomes part of a long term relationship, not an isolated encounter.
Above all, the team wanted to create something with a single belief: when you care for families with intention, children thrive. That belief continues to guide every decision they make—from the time they spend with each family to the way they communicate, educate, and advocate. It is a practice built on heart, grounded in experience, and fueled by the simple desire to make pediatric care feel human again.
After years in fast paced clinics and crowded hospitals, they felt called to create something different: a calmer, more personalized, truly family-centered approach where parents feel heard, kids feel comfortable, and no one is rushed. They wanted to reshape the pediatric experience into one that honors the rhythms of childhood and the realities of parenthood—a model where care is unrushed, questions are welcomed, and providers have the time to truly know a family, not just their chart. Concierge care offered a path to that vision, allowing them to put meaningful connection back into medicine.
That’s how the journey began.
Six months of planning, dedication, and heart led to the creation of First Call Pediatrics, an at home concierge pediatric team designed to make your child’s healthcare simple, accessible, and deeply connected. We built this practice to address the challenges of the traditional model: long wait times, rushed encounters, confusing billing, and parents who often feel overwhelmed. We wanted to replace that frustration with confidence, continuity, and calm.
For newborns, those challenges intensify. Quarterly checkups, vaccines, unexpected illnesses—it’s a lot. Families deserve better.
