Importance of Sleep in Pediatrics

This article is a systematic review examining how sleep duration, sleep timing, and sleep quality relate to cardiovascular risk factors—including hypertension, obesity, inflammation, glucose/insulin regulation, and lipid levels, in both children and adolescents. The review analyzed 24 studies published between 2015 and 2018 and found the strongest associations between poor sleep and obesity, hypertension, and impaired insulin sensitivity. Sleep habits start at an early age. FCP has resources through our Care Network that help address sleep issues and possible solutions which can be discussed during a newborn in-home visit.
